The Future of Israel in the Old Testament and the New Testament

The Future of Israel, Both in the Old and New Testaments

The restoration of Israel to its promised land after exile and dispersion among nations

God promised Abraham that he would give the land of Canaan as a perpetual inheritance to him and his descendants.

Genesis 17:8: “And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojourning, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”

Although Israel was taken captive by Assyria and Babylon and then dispersed by the Romans, God did not forget his covenant and announced through the prophets that he would one day bring his people back to the land they had given them.

Isaías 11:11-12: “ In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea. He will raise a signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel and gather the dispersed of Juda from the four corners of the earth.”

Jeremías 29:10-14: ““For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill my promise and bring you back to this place (with the help of Cyrus King of Persia). For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. (This is taking place now, after the II World War and the Jews returning to Israel as a Nation).

Jeremías 29:10-14: “For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill my promise and bring you back to this place (with the help of Cyrus King of Persia). For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. God has a future purpose for Israel, in which one day, all the people will recognize Jesus as their Savior and Lord, and will be saved by his grace.

Romans 11:25-2: “Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.” (This is the problem Israel is having now, most of the Israelites are against Jesus Christ as the Promised Messiah).

Zechariah 12:10-13:1): 10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. 11 On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great as the mourning for Hadad-Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.”

Israel's Sharing of His Glory

Exodus 19:5-6: “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”

Isaiah 60:1-3: “Although Israel failed many times to fulfill this mission, God did not give up on his plan, but will fully fulfill it in the future, when Israel will be restored and blessed, and For behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that I will restore my people Israel and Judah from captivity, says the LORD. I will bring you back to the land that I gave to your fathers, and you will take possession of it, and it will be a blessing to all the families of the earth."

Revelation 21:24-26: “By its light[1] will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the nations' glory and honor.
