THE THREE TYPES OF BRAINS OF THE HUMAN BEING

The Three Types of Human Brain

Within the human brain, three types of brains can be distinguished. Instead, three groups of clearly differentiated structures, both evolutionarily and functionally.

THE REPTILIAN BRAIN

The reptilian brain or brain stem is the first of the three to appear, the most primitive in brain phylogeny. It developed more than 500 million years ago and is similar to reptiles today.

It is a reactive, active brain controlling muscles and balance. Regulates vegetative or unconscious functions such as heartbeat, digestion, or breathing. Its operation is instinctive or automatic, so it is the most basic. It is responsible for the physiological changes the body needs for survival.

A biblical example of the characteristics of this "reptilian brain" can be seen in the book of Genesis in a snake, the most cunning animal that the Lord had created. "But the serpent was cunning, more than all the animals of the field that Jehovah God had made; he said to the woman: "Has God said to you, Do not eat from every tree of the garden?" And the woman answered the serpent: Of the fruit of the trees of the Garden we may eat; but of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the Garden, God said: You shall not eat of it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die." Then the serpent said to the woman: "You will not die, but God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (Genesis 3:1-5)

The structures that compose it are:

    • The cerebellum: it is the place where the sensory pathways and the motor pathways are integrated. Pathways that connect with other brain structures and with the spinal cord. Hence, this part of the brain is essential for movement, coordination, and balance.

But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:13Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a part of it. (28).

The medulla oblongata is located in the lower part of the brain stem and is responsible for regulating blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing.

With disobedience and the fear of death, the balance of the medulla oblongata was altered. Therefore destabilizing the blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing.

The brainstem bridge or annular pons connects the Spinal Cord and the Medulla Oblongata with higher brain structures.

The higher brain structures are analogous to the "Neo Cortex," the fourth brain where God can communicate with man and man with God. But with the fall of man and woman, this communication was severed, and they were left alone with their thoughts and ideas. That is why the biblical text says: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord." (Isaiah 55:8).

The spinal cord communicates sensory information from the body to the brain through numerous nerve pathways and sends motor orders from the cortex to the musculoskeletal system.

This communication from the body to the brain through the spinal cord, analogous to the good and evil tree, carries good and bad information to the limbic system. These structures are involved in processing and regulating emotions, forming and storing memories, sexual arousal, and learning. Fear is the primary emotion that the amygdala is known to control. That’s why your amygdala is so crucial to survival. It processes things you see or hear and uses that input to learn what’s dangerous. If you encounter something similar in the future, your amygdala will cause you to feel fear or similar emotions. Fear was the first emotion the couple in the Garden felt when they realized that soon death would take them by surprise for having eaten from the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil.

"And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked and hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” (Genesis 3:10-11).

 THE MAMALIAN BRAIN

The second to appear in the evolution of the human being is the so-called mammalian brain, formed by the limbic system. This group of structures is already found in birds, although in a more incipient form, and is fully developed in mammals. It is located below the neocortex and behind the nose.

Although it is still an unconscious brain, its operation is already much more complex. It is a brain that learns, that "gets excited," and thanks to this, it can achieve a relationship with other similar ones. Thus it manages to have a connection and a direct effect on the neocortex.

The structures that form it are:

The thalamus is the largest structure within the limbic system. He is in charge of relaying information. It writes, integrates, and sends this information from the body and the brain stem to other higher structures.

The hypothalamus is next to the pituitary gland or hypophysis, just below the thalamus and on both sides of the third ventricle. It will be in charge of maintaining the organism's homeostasis, adjusting the physiological conditions of the body to adapt as well as possible to its environment. It is fundamental in coordinating the endocrine autonomic and somatic nervous systems. It regulates hunger, thirst, response to pain, levels of pleasure, sexual satisfaction, anger, and aggressive behavior. It also regulates the functioning of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, which regulate things like pulse rate, blood pressure, breathing, and physiological arousal in response to emotional circumstances.

The hippocampus: its primary function is to consolidate long-term memory and learning.

The basal ganglia: through the putamen and the caudate nucleus, it controls movements that have already been automated thanks to their repetition and the automation of some thoughts. This will allow you to keep your attention on other things that are newer or that require a more significant cognitive effort.

The amygdala's fundamental mission is to generate fear; thanks to it, you will learn to identify dangerous situations.

With the disobedience and the

THE MIDBRAIN

Unlike the spinal cord, which has changed little in structure during vertebrate evolution, the brain has changed dramatically. A primitive linear brain, as seen in fishes and amphibians, expanded to form a deeply fissured and enormously intricate brain in the lineage leading to mammals. It reaches its most extraordinary complexity in the human brain, which contains some 35 billion nerve cells, each of which may receive information from tens of thousands of synapses simultaneously. The ratio between the brain's weight and that of the spinal cord affords a fair criterion of an animal's intelligence. In fish and amphibians, this ratio is approximately 1:1; in humans, the ratio is 55:1—in other words, the brain is 55 times heavier than the spinal cord. Although the human brain is not the largest (the sperm whale's brain is seven times heavier) nor the most convoluted (that of the porpoise is even more folded), it is the best overall performance by all odds. This "great raveled knot," as the British physiologist Sir Charles Sherrington called the human brain, may be so complex that it will never understand its own function!

Although the large size of their brain undoubtedly makes humans the wisest of animals, it is apparent that they can do without much of it and remain wise. Brain scans of persons with hydrocephalus (head enlargement due to pressure disturbances that cause the brain ventricles to enlarge many times their standard size) show that although many are functionally disabled, others are nearly normal. The cranium of one person with hydrocephalus was nearly filled with cerebrospinal fluid, and the only remaining cerebral cortex was a thin layer of tissue,1mm thick, pressed against the cranium. Yet this young man, with only 5% of his brain, had achieved first-class honors in mathematics at a British university and was socially normal. This and other similarly dramatic observations suggest enormous redundancy and spare capacity in cortico-cerebral function. It also suggests that the deep structures of the brain, which are relatively spared in hydrocephalus, may perform functions once believed to be performed solely by the cortex.

God used the same DNA's primates molecule in the Creation of man and codified a new program, the neocortex. In the neocortex (the new cerebral cortex), He programmed a code analogous to two-way communication with man.

In the cerebral cortex, this communication from the body to the brain through the spinal cord carries good and bad information to the limbic system. Man, instead of receiving the information from de neocortex (the new cortex) from above, from God to the limbic system and from there to the rest of the physiology, obeyed the serpent, and the devil took control of the limbic system, especially the amygdala man becoming aggressive, learning through rewards and punishment. Handling and using implicit (unconscious) memory allowing to remember how to do certain things without remembering how you learned them (like riding a bike or tying your shoes). Social communication and understanding, including how you interpret someone’s intentions from how they talk or act). Emotions that relate to parenting and caregiving. Emotions we connect to memories. Learned terrible behaviors and all kinds of addiction to drugs that lead people to destruction and death.

But the neocortex brings with it the "astrocytes." Astrocytes are specialized glial cells that outnumber neurons by over fivefold. They contiguously tile the entire central nervous system (CNS) and exert many essential complex functions in the healthy CNS.

Due to their innumerable functions in the maintenance of neurons, I would dare to call the astrocytes "the Neuron of God". The ones that activated the millions of neurons, on the day of Pentecost, (turned off by the desobedience), when, at the command of the Risen One, Jesus Christ, his disciples were expecting the Promise. It was prophetized by John the Baptist when he said"I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. tongues of fire appeared over the heads of those assembled there in the Upper Room. (Acts 2:1-5).
