The Holy Spirit Alights Jesus Spirit After His Baptism in The Jordan River
When John came baptizing the people in the
waters of the Jordan, they believed that he was the Messiah, whom they had been
waiting for so long. But John told them: “I baptize you in water for
repentance, but behind me comes one who will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and
Fire. (Luke 3:15).
The Holy Spirit brings peace and joy, and the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22,23). The fire consumes
the self-life and causes pain. Just as the fire dwells in the Spirit, so the
Spirit dwells in the fire, for God is Spirit, but He is also a consuming fire.
(Hebrews 12:29.) The fire will make its presence felt
immediately after a person has been baptized with the Holy Spirit.
The Promise of the Holy Spirit and Fire
Jesus was giving
his last instructions to his disciples, telling them He
had to leave, but he will not leave them alone but would send them a Comforter, the
(Holy Spirit and Fire)." (Jesus (Holy Spirit) dwelled with his disciples for 3 years, teaching, counseling, protecting, loving, and putting up with their negative behaviors
and attitudes. But Luke’s 3:15 prophecy about Jesus’s Holy Spirit and Fire
baptism would be fulfilled soon.
Jesus/Holy Spirit - When Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, he went up out of the water. At that moment, heaven was opened, and he saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove (the symbol represents the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, (showing God’s love, approval, and blessing) and alighting on him. Jesus, full of the (Holy Spirit) was led by the Spirit into the Wilderness
Jesus, full of
the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into
the wilderness, where, for 40 days, he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and he was hungry at the end. (Luke 4:1,2).
Jesus goes to Galilee in the power of the Holy Spirit
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread throughout the countryside. He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. (14,15).
Jesus in Nazareth was handed the scroll in Isaiah and found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord" (Holy Spirit) is on me
He went to
Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day, he went
into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll
of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found where
it is written: “The Spirit
of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me…
So, Jesus, from the moment he came out of the water, from the baptism in the Jordan, the Holy Spirit descended on Him in the form of a Dove and set Him alight. The same Holy Spirit kept him alight and led Jesus into the wilderness. The same Holy Spirit gave Him power and began to preach in Galilee's Synagogues. It is the same Holy Spirit that the Scriptures referred to in Isaiah 61:1-3 and that Jesus himself read on the parchment scroll. "The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor
The Year of the Lord's Favor
The Year of the Lord’s Favor, ushered in by Christ, is a promise to be
enjoyed by Gentiles and Jews. It is to be enjoyed by all who will trust
in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This verse also picks up on the
language of Isaiah 49:8, where God promises that in the “time of the favor” of
the Lord, God will work salvation for his people, bringing the nations into the
covenant. Indeed, the verses that follow echo much of the language of chapter
61. Thus, in Christ, we see the principle of the Year of Jubilee applied
to the Gentiles and the Jewish people. In Christ, we find that the
fortunes of all the tribes of the earth-all of the descendants of the sons of
Noah, find blessing as the gospel is brought to them.
We need to
raise one more issue regarding this passage. Given that we know the
context of the Year of the Lord’s favor with respect to the Year of Jubilee and
its extension to the Gentiles, we still ought to ask what favor means. I
raise this question because oftentimes when we think of favor, we think of
earning someone’s favor, which is obviously not the case with God. The
word “favor” is the Hebrew word, !Acr” (ratson), and while we find the term
used in various contexts, it usually refers to favor that is graciously given
and not favor that has been earned. In many cases, this term could also
be translated as “grace.” Do understand, loved ones, that the language of the
Year of God’s Favor is the language of a gracious gift that has been given, not
something that has been earned in any way. Seek Christ and enjoy the year of
his grace and mercies, and rest in the assurance of his promise. With the
technological advances of our times, we are at the threshold of times where the
Spirit of God will change the minds and hearts of people to live in peace and
harmony with each other. That which you could not do for yourself (being
brought into the favor of the Lord) has been done by Christ for us! Hallelujah!
Amen!
